Worth a Buy?

This textbooks is perfect for students learning about Hematology and getting a better understanding of different concepts. I read this textbook alongside my class and used it for notes and studying.

Information in this textbook is well organized, with tables galore to summarize ideas. However, don’t try to memorize the tables as a student! First, understand the concepts and reasons behind everything or come up with a mnemonic. Use the tables as a review or test yourself by trying to fill one out.

This textbook is jam-packed with information…almost too much at times. As a student still learning what is and isn’t important, it can be very easy to get bogged down with the details.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a great textbook. I think it is necessary for hematology. However, it costs about $150 for the second edition. The third edition costs even more; about $200. I personally own the second edition still, so I can’t say if the third edition is better or not, but it’s usually not worth the price jump. I rate this lower only because in most cases, it is better to get the book used. However, you may find the book pre-highlighted or with underlined words. Also, online access code is unlikely to work. I never used it myself, so I can’t say whether it’s good or not.

Overall, I would say this textbook is a must have for learning hematology. However, it is a bit expensive at full price. If you don’t mind highlights, I would definitely buy used. Either way, it is probably needed by school anyway so it is a worthy investment.
