Ammonium Biurate crystals are usually found in alkaline urine that has been sitting out for a while but can be seen in urine of any pH. They are soluble in heat and acetic acid.
These crystals are typically clinically insignificant.
Appearance
Ammonium Biurate crystals have a characteristic “thorny apple appearance” with strong birefringence under polarized light.
