Purpose:

For:
Lab Techs
Students
This textbook is primarily useful for students learning mathematics used in the clinical laboratory. Each concept has short, detailed explanations that are easy to understand followed by example questions walking through the solution set-by-step. Additionally, each chapter ends with there are plenty of practice problems. Unlike many other textbooks, this textbook has answers to all questions, as opposed to just the odd questions.
In addition to learning the material, the questions make it excellent for review.
The explanations can also be a helpful reference for current lab techs. In fact, I used this book as a reference for my page on dilutions.
Organization & Information:
(5/5)
The book is organized into 14 chapters with an appendix, glossary for math terms, answer key, and index. If you are struggling only in certain areas or just want to jump to a section for review, it is very easy to find what you need.
Additionally, the layout of each chapter is very easy to follow with an outline and objectives. Before jumping into the calculations, an explanation is given to understand when these calculations may be used. Examples immediately follow, allowing for instant application.
Value for Money:
(4/5)
This book is the best I have found for understanding laboratory mathematics which is quite an extensive area. The only downside is it can be quite expensive, at around $80 as of May 2026.
Overall Rating:
(5/5)
Overall, this is a definite buy for students learning or looking to review laboratory mathematics. This may also be helpful just to have around a laboratory for technologists to reference.
